Houston Region Joins Forces to Save More Than 10,000 jobs, $1.8 billion Annually

The Greater Houston Partnership, Sealy FMTV Task Force and Congressman Michael T. McCaul held a press conference today at Minute Maid Park attracting local and national media to rally support for BAE Systems. The Company is protesting the U.S. Army’s decision to award a $3 billion contract to build the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) to competitor Oshkosh Corp. in Wisconsin. BAE, which has built the FMTVs in Sealy, Texas, for the last 17 years, is questioning the Army’s bidding process.

The Government Accountability Office is currently reviewing BAE’s appeal and is expected to render a decision on whether or not the contract is rebid by December 14th. If BAE loses the appeal, more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs will be lost in the Houston region, which also will sustain a $1.8 billion annual hit.
