Consulate General of the Republic of Korea
Please join the Greater Houston Partnership as we welcome the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, The Honorable Lee Tae Sik, and Ambassador John K. Veroneau, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, for a discussion of the benefits of the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA), which offers tremendous opportunities for U.S. exporters and will be the most significant FTA in 15 years. Congressman Kevin Brady of the 8th District of Texas will also highlight opportunities and benefits the KORUS FTA offers Houston companies.
The U.S. concluded historic free trade agreement negotiations with Korea on April 1, 2007. Once the KORUS FTA passes both countries’ legislatures, the agreement will be fully implemented. This comprehensive trade agreement will eliminate tariffs and non-tariff barriers to trade in goods and services, promote economic growth and enhance trade between the U.S. and Korea.
Korea is a trillion dollar economy that is also the United States’ 7th largest trading partner and Houston’s 13th largest trading partner. Trade between Korea and Houston totaled more than $3.8 billion in 2007. We encourage you to come and learn about the tremendous opportunities for U.S. exporters and the benefits the KORUS FTA offers to Houston companies.
