Bill Breetz was named president of Kroger Southwest in November 2002. He is responsible for the operations of 215 Kroger stores including 78 Signature stores in Texas and Louisiana.
Breetz began his Kroger career in 1972 as a bagger in Louisville, Kentucky. He held various jobs within the store. After graduating from college, he was promoted to the Kroger management program and assigned as co-manager in a Cincinnati, Ohio store. He was promoted to store manager and operated five different Kroger stores before becoming a zone manager, responsible for 20 stores. He was a meat merchandiser before his promotion to vice president of merchandising for the Cincinnati Division. He was named executive vice president for the Southwest Division in January 2001, responsible for store operations in the Dallas area. Later that year, he assumed responsibility for operations in Houston and Dallas.
He has been active in the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America, United Way, March of Dimes and other local charities.
Breetz is a graduate of the University of Louisville.
