- According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2004 County Business Patterns, the Houston metro area has nearly 400 wired telecom carriers, more than 280 wireless telecom carriers and more than 280 Internet service providers, Web search portals and data processing service providers.
- The U.S. Census Bureau also found that the Houston region has more than 220 establishments involved in data processing, hosting and related services, or 20.2 percent of the state total. That does not count firms with in-house data processing operations.
