International Press Center–Houston

Reporting on foreign cities can be challenging.The International Press Center–Houston was founded to make it easier for journalists from outside Houston to meet this challenge.

The International Press Center–Houston, established in 1995, is a working resource center for accredited journalists on assignment in Houston.The center is officially sanctioned by the United States Information Agency and works closely with U.S.I.A. Foreign Press Centers in New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, and with other international press centers in Atlanta, Chicago, Miami and Seattle.

Designed to help domestic and foreign journalists research and develop stories on news and developments in the Greater Houston area, the International Press Center–Houston offers visiting journalists a convenient workspace and support services as well as access to a library of local information and to a vast network of Houston-area contacts.

Sponsored by the Greater Houston Partnership, the International Press Center–Houston facilitates contacts between journalists and Houston business and government leaders.

Services, Resources and Programs

The center features modern, well-equipped working space suited to the needs of journalists, including:

• Private interview, meeting and conference rooms
• Library of resource materials
• Database of thousands of companies covering hundreds of industries and occupational fields
• Computers, typewriters, fax and modem
• Telephones (no cost for local calls)
• Access to televisions to monitor major news channels including the Cable News Network (CNN), Cable Satellite Public Affairs Network (C-SPAN) and NASA-Select
  Lists of professional translating and interpreting services
• Access to computer-based news retrieval services
• Liaison to the City of Houston, Harris County, Port of Houston, Greater Houston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and more than 75 Consulates and Foreign Trade Offices
• Reciprocal arrangements with other Foreign Press Centers in the United States
• Directory of photographers, video/camera crews, photo processing labs, camera repair and rental companies, computer and telecommunications equipment rental and repair companies

Since no two stories are ever the same, the International Press Center–Houston gives journalists the individual assistance they require.

The International Press Center–Houston staff provides an important link to resources and contacts in the Houston area and can help expedite a variety of requests.The International Press Center–Houston will help arrange orientation meetings for background information and interviews for news and feature stories and will assist with appropriate contacts in the business, commercial, cultural and governmental communities.
