Education & Workforce Development Issues
Education Issues:
The Partnership is committed to improving the economic vitality of the community, with a keen eye toward attracting a highly-skilled and well-educated workforce. To do this, the Partnership advocates a number of education initiatives, serving students from "pre-K to gray".
We advocate for a highly-skilled and highly-trained workforce throughout the 10-county Houston region. Working with area businesses, school districts, community colleges & universities and government entities, we are creating the workforce we need to keep our region at the forefront of economic success.
Our bold proactive campaign of generating 600,000 new jobs in the region will require a major investment in education over the next ten years.
Education Initiatives:
Higher Education - 2 year institutions
The Partnership, along with the Gulf Coast Community colleges, urge
the Texas Legislature to adopt the Texas

Higher Education - 4 year institutions
As demands on universities continue to grow through ever-increasing
enrollments, the Partnership believes it is imperative that the state
support four-year higher education institutions at a level that preserves
the quality of educational programs, services and research conducted by
Texas universities.

Public School Reform
The public school system in Texas has made significant progress in improving
results and accountability in the past ten years, but more must be done
to provide this state with the caliber of educated workforce necessary
to remain economically competitive in this new century.
The Partnership supports:
- The review and study of the state's accountability system
- Alternative delivery methods in assessing student performance
- Post-secondary readiness success
- Differentiated pay scales on teacher recruitment and retention
- Charter schools, if they are pro-accountability, and facility infrastructure needs.

Texas Scholars
High school students need to take the Recommended High School Program (RHSP) curriculum in order to succeed
in the real world after graduation. The Partnership supports an increase
in funding for the TEXAS Grant Program , to cover the 36,700 qualifying, yet unserved students.
