Environmental Issues
The Environment Program works with environmental policy at the local, state and federal levels to ensure that a balance between the protection of public health and natural resources and the need for a productive and growing economy are met. The Program is subdivided into two focus issue areas.

Air quality
Advocate for air quality policies that enhance the Houston region's quality of life and economic competitiveness with emphasis on the attainment of the 8-hour ozone standard. - Water
Identification and evaluation of cost-effective, scientifically supported water and wetlands policies and examining issues surrounding regional solutions for water treatment and distribution.
The Greater Houston Partnership is actively supporting the following initiatives:
- Maintain Texas Emission Reduction Plan
- Challenges Associated with Meeting the Federal Ozone Standard
- Low Income Repair and Assistance Program Fund Appropriation
- Texas Environmental Research Consortium/ New Technology Research and Development Program Funding
- Environmental Flow Requirements in Surface Water Permitting
- Interbasin Transfer of Surface Water
Current Events:
- The Environmental Advisory Committee meets every first Tuesday of every other month.
- The Clean Air Committee meets every third Tuesday of every month.
- The Water Issues Committee meets February 20, May 21, August 20, and November 19 of 2008.
