19th Amendment Centennial Celebration

Save to Calendar 2020-08-18 12:00:00 2020-08-18 13:00:00 19th Amendment Centennial Celebration Join us to celebrate the Women's Suffrage Centennial on August 18 - the same day the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified 100 years ago - granting American women the right to vote.   Nancy Sims, government relations specialist and adjunct professor at the University of Houston, will examine the HERstory leading up to the ratification and the state of women's rights in 2020. We'll also hear from MaryJane Mudd and Tiko Reynolds-Hausman from the League of Women Voters of Houston, also celebrating its centennial anniversary this year. They will also discuss how women’s suffrage, particularly for women of color, did not end with the 19th Amendment and how voter suppression continued to exist historically and into the present day.    Additional program participants include:  Amy Chronis, Partnership Vice Chair, Managing Partner, Deloitte Darcie Durham, Chair, Executive Women's Partnership and Chief Impact Officer, The Awty International School  Pamela Lovett, Vice Chair, Executive Women's Partnership and SVP, Business Development and Community Affairs, Comerica Bank Mary Vitek, Chief Executive Officer, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council Allies and women's employee resource groups (ERGs) are encouraged to attend.
