Houston is one of the country’s most exciting food cities, with local restaurants scoring high on rankings:
o In ’20, Houston received 10 semifinalist nominations for the James Beard Awards, commonly known as the “Oscars of the food world.”
o The city is among WalletHub’s “Best Cities for Vegans & Vegetarians”
According to Yelp.com, Houston has over 80 categories of cuisine, including Latin American, Ramen and Vegan restaurants. Houston is also home to over 1,000 food trucks and stands and about 100 wine bars.
In the four quarters ending Q3/20, the Houston MSA was home to 12,036 food service and drinking establishments that employed more than 239,695. These establishments included: 4,601 full-service restaurants, 4,564 limited-service eating places and 675 drinking establishments.
The Houston MSA sold $20.1 billion in the four quarters ending Q3/20, according to the State Comptroller’s office.
