Bruce R. Bilger
Bruce Bilger is currently a Senior Advisor at Lazard Frerès & Co. LLC. He had previously joined Lazard in 2008 as Managing Director, Chairman & Head of Global Energy, and Co-Head of the Southwest Investment Banking region. He continues to be active in providing financial advice on mergers and acquisitions, financings, and restructurings, particularly in the energy industry.
Mr. Bilger is also a director of Stellus Capital Investment Corporation, an NYSE-listed investment company.
Prior to joining Lazard, Mr. Bilger was a partner at the law firm of Vinson & Elkins L.L.P., where he was Head of its 400-plus-attorney Energy Practice Group and Co-Head of its 175-plus-attorney corporate and transactional practice. During his 30 year legal career with Vinson & Elkins, Mr. Bilger’s practice consisted primarily of domestic and international business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, international infrastructure development projects, project finance and other corporate transactions, particularly in the energy industry. He has handled some of the most notable and challenging energy industry transactions in recent years, including numerous $1 billion+ transactions.
Mr. Bilger has been a frequent lecturer and author on energy, mergers and acquisitions, finance, restructuring, corporate, and international topics. He has been recognized in many surveys and publications as one of the leading energy and corporate lawyers nationally and internationally. In 2007, he received more nominations than any other lawyer in the world in Euromoney’s Guide to the Worlds’s Leading Energy and Natural Resource Lawyers.
Active in the Houston community, Mr. Bilger is or has been a board or committee member with numerous charitable and civic organizations, including the Greater Houston Partnership, the Greater Houston Community Foundation, Reasoning Mind, Positive Coaching Alliance, Rice’s Jones Graduate School of Business, Texas Children’s Hospital, the Asia Society of Texas, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, St. John’s School, Dartmouth College, and the University of Virginia. With four sons, he has coached about 30 Little League baseball, church league basketball, and community football teams. He is also an active member of River Oaks Country Club and the Coronado Club in Houston, Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Promontory Club in Park City, Utah, and the United States Seniors’ Golf Association.
Mr. Bilger graduated from Dartmouth College, B.A. 1973 (Phi Beta Kappa), and the University of Virginia, J.D. and M.B.A. 1977.
He has been married for 32 years to his wife Carole Bilger. They have four sons: Bruce (30), Michael (29), David (25), and Richard (20).
