Federal Trade Policy

Houston is the largest export-based metro in the country with 17% of our GDP tied to exports. The region is a strategic gateway to international markets, and federal trade policy can support or inhibit the growth of the regional and national export economy.

The Partnership understands the significant benefits of open international trade to the Houston region and works to communicate this message to our elected officials. In coordination with our delegation, particularly Senators Cornyn and Cruz and Chairman Kevin Brady, and key business groups, including the National Association of Manufacturers, the American Petroleum Institute and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Partnership supports trade policies that help Houston trade freely and competitively.

The Partnership's Priorities for Federal Trade Policy

  • Communicate Houston's outsized trade impact on the national economy

  • Advocate for open international trade

  • Collaborate with elected officials and national organizations to facilitate open trade policy for the greater Houston region
