Resilient Structures Expands in Greater Houston, Boosting Grid Resilience and Advanced Manufacturing

On April 28, Resilient Structures celebrated the grand opening of its new facility in Humble, located near George Bush Intercontinental Airport. While the milestone represents yet another success story for Houston’s diverse economy, it directly reflects greater Houston’s Regional Resilience Imperative, committed to strengthening the critical systems that support daily life, economic growth and regional competitiveness.

The Greater Houston Partnership has elevated regional resilience as a strategic imperative through its five-year framework, Houston Next: Advancing Opportunity. The goal is ambitious: position Houston as the most resilient coastal city in the world. That work focuses on strengthening the systems the region relies on every day and must restore quickly when disrupted, including power, communications, transportation, health care, flood control and storm surge, water and wastewater infrastructure.

Resilient Structures’ investment in Houston aligns directly with that vision. The company manufactures high-performance composite utility poles that last up to four times as long as standard wooden poles, and have never succumbed to a weather-related event. This is one of the core systems essential to the region’s ability to withstand, respond to and recover from major disruptions. Through its partnership with CenterPoint Energy, Resilient Structures will help advance grid hardening efforts and strengthen the infrastructure that powers homes, businesses, hospitals, schools and industrial operations across Greater Houston.

A more resilient power grid is also an economic development asset. Companies evaluating new markets look closely at infrastructure reliability, utility performance and a region’s ability to maintain operations through disruption. By improving the strength and dependability of Houston’s power infrastructure, investments like this help create a stronger operating environment for major employers, support business growth and expand opportunity for Houstonians.

The local manufacturing component makes the impact even more significant. By producing critical grid infrastructure in Greater Houston, Resilient Structures helps strengthen the regional supply chain and shorten the distance between demand and delivery. That matters in a fast-growing region where speed, reliability and infrastructure readiness are increasingly important to both business continuity and quality of life.

The investment also highlights Houston’s outstanding environment for advanced manufacturing. The region offers a deep industrial base, global logistics assets, a skilled workforce and direct access to major energy and infrastructure customers. On top of a business-friendly approach to permitting and governance, Houston provides manufacturers with the talent, infrastructure and market access needed to build and scale.

Resilient Structures’ continued growth in Houston further reinforces the region’s role as a hub for advanced manufacturing and infrastructure innovation. The Partnership and Partnership Lake Houston celebrated the project win in 2023, bringing an initial investment creating 200 jobs. The recent announcement of two new production lines is anticipated to add another 150 follow-on positions, further creating economic opportunity for Houstonians.

The Partnership continues to work with public- and private-sector partners, including CenterPoint Energy, local governments and business leaders, to strengthen resilience across the region. Through its Regional Resilience initiative, the Partnership is convening system owners and operators, aligning priorities across sectors, advocating for policy solutions and communicating regional progress. This public-private approach is central to identifying interdependencies, accelerating coordinated action and improving the performance of the critical systems Greater Houston depends on.

Resilient Structures’ new Humble facility is a tangible example of resilience in action. For Houstonians, a stronger grid means more reliable service, stronger communities and a better quality of life. For employers, it means greater confidence in Houston as a place to invest, expand and hire. For the region’s economy, it is another step toward a more prosperous, competitive and resilient future.
