NIH Grant Funding for the Future: Policy and Impact

Partnership Tower

701 Avenida de las Americas

Suite 900

Houston, TX 77010

In February 2025, the NIH announced a change in their indirect cost reimbursement policy. This change has a direct impact on ongoing research and clinical trials. With the Texas Medical Center being the largest medical center in the world, many healthcare institutions have had a take a long look about what is sustainable with the loss of reimbursement funds from NIH.

Experts warn that these funding reductions could undermine the United States’ position as a global leader in scientific research and innovation, with long-term consequences for public health and the economy. Join us for a panel of experts discussing how organizations are dealing with the new reimbursement policy, new relationships with private capital and what this could mean for the largest medical center in the world.

Speakers include:

  • Diane Santa Maria, Dean, Cizik School of Nursing, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
  • Ezreal J. Garcia, Vice President, Government Affairs and Public Relations, Emergency Preparedness and Public Information Officer, Community Health Network
  • Stephen Ives, President and CEO, YMCA of Greater Houston
